On my first draft of this ‘about me’ section I really tried to position myself as some kind of burgeoning international relations expert. I talked about working at the UN, travelling the world, studing global politics; you get the picture.
It didn’t seem quite right somehow. I’m not sure anyone can really be an expert in a world as unpredictable and incredible as ours. Anyone who says they are can usually only succeed in generalising, over-simplifying, or marginalising people’s perspectives, which kind of misses the point if you ask me.
So I guess what you really need to know about me is simply that, for as long as I can remember and for no real reason, I’ve been fascinated about learning about the world; places and people, conflicts and cultures. I love trying to understand the roots and perspectives on the issues that divide people, and I love it even more when I’m reminded that those same people have so much more in common with one another than they would ever admit; a common humanity, which leaves unlimited potential to work together and learn from each other.
Yes, I know, I’m in danger of sounding like some Hollywood version of a schmatzy Presidential speech, but I guess we’re all in danger of being a bit ‘rose-tinted’ about the things we love.
So, this blog is my way of trying to learn more, understand things better, and search for inspiration and innovation from all over the world. I still find it incredible that in this digital world I can now do all of that without even leaving home! My plan is to take what I find and broadcast it back to the world through this site, so you can enjoy it too.
Thanks for visiting,
Kim
